Anna D. - Callaway Rescue Squad
Anna is 18 years old, she obtained her EMT-B certification while in high school. She graduated this year and is currently attending Virginia Western Community College to obtain a Health Sciences Degree. She plans to eventually move on to the nursing program at Radford University Carilion. She has lived in Callaway her entire life along with her parents and sister. Her dad, Chris Decker, is a full time EMT/firefighter for Roanoke City and is also a part time employee with Franklin County Public Safety. He is also a member of Callaway Volunteer Fire Department. Her mother, Christy Decker, is a registered nurse and has worked for Carilion Lifeguard. Her parents met while both were volunteers at Clearbrook Rescue Squad.
Anna chose to volunteer because she plans to pursue a career in the medical field and thought volunteering would be a good start and great way to obtain experience. She has been a volunteer with Callaway Volunteer Rescue Squad for a year and a half and holds an officer position. Anna says, “I enjoy every minute of it.”
Spending time with family and friends, camping, kayaking, and playing softball are some of the things Anna enjoys.
